Day 10: Rend Your Heart

By: Leslie Vance

Joel 1:14
Declare a holy fast; call a sacred assembly. Summon the elders and all who live in the land to the house of the Lord your God, and cry out to the Lord. Rend Your Heart 12 “Even now,” declares the Lord, “return to me with all your heart, with fasting and weeping and mourning.” 13 Rend your heart and not your garments. Return to the Lord your God, for he is gracious and compassionate, slow to anger and abounding in love.

Definition to Rend:
Rend means repentance, not to tear your garments but instead of tearing your clothes, or even changing them, Joel is pleading with them to do the same with their hearts, your very being …to Rend them. God is calling us to real repentance. Real Repentance is not just feeling sorry for your sin. But turning from your sin and leaving it behind.

How do we even start to do this?

By Seeking God’s face. Moses gives us an example below

Exodus 33.7
Now Moses used to take the tent and pitch it outside the camp, a good distance from the camp, and he called it the Tent of Meeting.

Psalm 27:8
When you said, “Seek My Face” My Heart said to you
“Your face, O Lord, I shall seek”

The Tent of Meeting
There are certain times when the Lord calls us out of the routine of our daily lives. These are special seasons where His only command is “Seek My Face”.

The Lord has something precious and vitally important to give us that the familiar pattern of our daily lives cannot accommodate. During these times people are often delivered of sins that have plagued them for years: others discover a new depth in their walk with God.

Our Highest Goal in Seeking God

God has for us gifts He has hidden in His heart. For us to obtain these blessings, God must be sought. He not only wants to bless us but wants us to draw near. He wants us to discover and know His deep love for us. We have to seek God not for personal gain but seek God for God himself. Maturity comes when we break the cycle of seeking God only during hardship.

Are you Rending your whole heart to God?

I thank our God for bringing me in this direction and on this path. Oner of my Christian brothers brought this phrase [again] to my attention…”rend your heart”. I never had a clue how to, but Holy Spirit brought me here. Thank you Abba.
