Day 21: Awake & At Rest

By: Jill Wallace

Psalm 63[a]
A psalm of David. When he was in the Desert of Judah.
1You, God, are my God,earnestly I seek you;I thirst for you,my whole being longs for you,in a dry and parched landwhere there is no water.2I have seen you in the sanctuaryand beheld your power and your glory.3Because your love is better than life,my lips will glorify you.4I will praise you as long as I live,and in your name I will lift up my hands.5I will be fully satisfied as with the richest of foods;with singing lips my mouth will praise you.

To be satisfied in Him alone brings us to a place where we desire Him more. When He alone is our desire,

Sorrow becomes joy.

Broken becomes restored.

Fear becomes faith. The mundane becomes extraordinary, and miracles never cease. At the altar, we bring our desires and lay them at His feet where we find rest.

And yet, He tells us to stay awake. As we seek to grow in intimacy with our Father,He instructs us to keep our eyes, minds and hearts awake to hear Him in the seeking.

Mark 14:38
“Watch and pray so that you will not fall into temptation. The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak.”

In my personal testimony of transformation, this scripture reminds me that He delights in our pursuit of those hidden things. When we pursue miracles, truth, signs and wonders, He knows we have the faith that they not only exist, but that we, as His children, have access to them. His truth is revealed to those who are most hungry for Him.

In this time of fasting, how can we stay awake as we still seek to find rest? Where does our strength come from when our bodies are weak? For me, the answer is in the words of the Psalm.

I will be fully satisfied as with the richest of foods;
with singing lips my mouth will praise you.

Father, we declare that we are fully satisfied in the rest we find in you. As we are satisfied in You alone, we seek the treasures you have hidden for us. We are hungryfor those things that you desire. Give us eyes to see, ears to hear and your heart inside of each of us to be image bearers of Your Son. Amen
