Jehovah Jireh – “The Lord Will Provide”

Job 5:9
He performs wonders that cannot be fathomed, miracles that cannot be counted.

Isaiah 4:10
So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.

As we grow in a relationship with our Father, God, we learn that He covers every area of  our lives. He sees and knows all things concerning our needs. Remembering is very important. It brings back to mind what has happened and  what God can and will do. When circumstances arise in our lives, we will not fear but have faith knowing He will provide our every need.  He will always be our sustainer. His provision is perfect even when we can not understand His ways.

God did a miraculous act of provision in my life when I was a teenager. I still praise Him for it to this day.  He continues to meet all of my needs in a mighty way. Remember and recognize His promises in your life. He is ever present.

One day when I was in high school, I could not get in touch with anyone for a ride home from a basketball game.  There were no cell phones at this time, so I had to use the school’s phone located in the gym.  The coach waited for me, however after many attempts, with no answer, he decided he was going home.  The janitor had finished cleaning as well, so he too left.  I was alone and standing on the steps of the school. It was late and we lived a long distance from the school.  Seeing I had no quarter to use the payphone, I could see no other option but to start walking.

I mapped out my long journey and started on my way.  I chose to walk down a side street as a short cut. This street had only one street light so it was really dark. After walking in the dark for a while, I finally reached the beams of light coming from the street light where I felt some safety from the darkness.  I noticed a shimmer in the road and out of curiosity I bent down to see what it was. It was a penny. I picked it up because it was brand new and looked as if it had just been made. I examined it and found not one blemish. As I stood in the cover of this light, I noticed the road was really shiny right where I was standing.  I was confused by what I was seeing and I really did not understand the light that had wrapped itself around me, yet it soon  became clear to me that pennies were all over the road.

Even more curious now, I picked them up one by one. Soon all my pockets were filled and even a pocket on my book bag was full. I picked them up until I wanted no more. My pockets were overflowing! I remember looking back as I walked away and there was no more sparkle and the light was dim.  All the pennies that I did not gather were gone.

I continued walking until I reached a store at the end of the road. I began to put the pennies on the counter and noticed the clerk was looking at me as though I were insane. I did not even count them.  I simply and proudly asked the clerk for a quarter to use the pay phone. If he only knew where those pennies had come from,  he would have understood my joy. Needless to say, I made it home.

I have never forgotten this miracle.  As my relationship with God grew  and I  learned that He is my provider,  I had to ask… why pennies?  Why not a couple of quarters or even a dollar bill? Why did I have to pick up so many pennies?  He assured me that He was with me and every time I made the effort to move there was provision. Not only did He give me what was needed, there was abundant overflow. No matter how things look to us God is working things out in His own way.

In all of His glory and greatness…He chose a penny.  Don’t underestimate God’s power in how things look. He used the simplest thing to fulfill my need.  A penny. Some see a penny as useless and of no value but I see a powerful mighty God who loves me dearly.  He chose to use a thing of small value to show His mighty power and His true love for me. I was not alone along the way and I never will be.  I had Pennies From Heaven. That’s what I call it!  There’s nobody greater. We serve a Mighty God!

Let us Pray:

Thank you Father.  We honor You and give You all the praise and glory.  With every step we take in our journey, we know by faith, that You are with us and will never leave us.  For You know what we need even before we ask. We give thanks in all of our circumstances knowing that You are in control.  With thankful hearts we continue to praise You.  You are faithful in all Your ways. We stand on the foundation of Your promises. We love You. Amen.
