Prayer Focus:

A revelation of the Kingdom of God

Scripture Focus:

Pray then like this:

Our Father in heaven,
may your name be kept holy.
May your Kingdom come.
May your will be done on earth,
    as it is in heaven.
Give us today the food we need,
and forgive us our sins,
as we have forgiven those who sin against us.
And don’t let us yield to temptation,
but rescue us from the evil one. Matthew 6: 9-13

But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.Matthew 6: 33

Today’s prayer focus is to seek a fresh revelation of the Kingdom of God.

In the Scriptures the Kingdom of God has the mystery of referring to both a physical place, the new Earth, when Jesus returns, as well as to the rule of Our Lord, the King of Kings, in the hearts’ of man in the present.  To have a full revelation of the Kingdom of God requires us to have a deep longing for the things of heaven and a clear understanding of how they are to be accomplished here on Earth.

This is where I get fouled up every time, the understanding of how they are to be accomplished here on Earth.  You see, just like the Jews of Jesus’s day, I too long for the Lord to show up on a white horse with a legion of armies behind him to obliterate my adversaries ( or even just the people that try my patience:) ).  However, Our Lord did not rule that way.  He showed up on the scene and loved His enemies.  Blessed those who persecuted Him.  At the cross, the same people that gambled for His clothes as he suffocated to death, He said, “forgive them Father for they know not what the do.”  He taught the first would be the last, and the last would be the first.  He washed the feet of His disciples.

He never judged the mentally ill, he healed them.  He didn’t hoard food if there was short supply, he trusted His Father in heaven to multiply it.  He didn’t praise the Pharisees who gave greater financially but with wrong motive, but instead praised the poor widow that gave all with the right heart.

The Kingdom of God is an upside down Kingdom.  May the Lord expose in our hearts where we have accepted the rule of the world vs. the rule of our Lord, and may His grace transform us so that His will can be done an Earth as it is in heaven.

Let’s Pray:

Heavenly Father, to live the life of potential you prepared for us the day you placed us in our mother’s womb, requires we seek first your Kingdom and righteousness.  Father, open our eyes, our minds and our hearts to your Kingdom principles.  Remove in us the counterfeits that oppose your loving and humble rule.  Help us discern rightly all situations in our lives through your eyes of love and humility.  Reveal to us the mystery of Power that comes through sacrifice.  Supernaturally empower us to die to self in order to live as Christ. Amen
