COVID-19 March 16th Update

By: Andy McMahon

DLC Family,

As I am sure you are all aware, we are living through unprecedented times. We’ve chosen to move forward in faith, and not in fear. We have a team here, at Discover Life Church working around the clock to make sure that we’re doing everything we can to keep your family safe, help the community and keep our church gathered as much as possible.

Yesterday was a historical day for the church. When I say “the church”, I mean the church as a whole. Yesterday, more people gathered online to worship than any time in history! Churches across the nation made the choice to move to an online campus, and the turnout was amazing!

At DLC we did the same thing, and the numbers are staggering. We all came together and worshiped and received an incredibly timely message from Pastor Manny on “Faithing Our Fear”. Boy was it good!

Since we rent, we’re not sure what next Sunday will hold, but we’re anticipating another live stream service, and we know it’s going to be incredible!

Here are some factual updates for you. As of March 16th at 12:00pm, there are 121 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Georgia. Currently 5 cases are in Gwinnett County, and there has only been one death reported. At Discover Life Church we are praying for all of the families impacted by the illness, and are looking for ways to reach out to the community during these turbulent times.

Let me encourage you during this time. We’ve never been here before. Everything is brand new, and as we learn new information we will communicate it to you! We strongly believe this could be the church’s greatest hour, and it will all depend on how we choose to respond. At DLC, we’ve chosen to respond in faith!

Have faith, and don’t be discouraged. Trust in the Lord, and have grace with people you encounter day to day. They’ve never been here before either.

Let’s be the light in this situation.

Let’s talk about Jesus.

Let’s help those in need.

When I was a kid, I watched Mr. Rogers every single day. He was a source of calm for me. This has been all over the internet, but I want to share it here because it rings true. Mr. Rogers often told this story about when he was a boy and would see scary things on the news: “My mother would say to me, ‘Look for the helpers. You will always find people who are helping.’ To this day, especially in times of disaster, I remember my mother’s words, and I am always comforted by realizing that there are still so many helpers — so many caring people in this world.”

Discover Life Church. Let’s be the helpers.
